A Métro Station Time Capsule

Métro Marcadet-Poissonniers

The Marcadet-Poissonniers Métro station on line 12 is currently undergoing some serious renovation. Walls have been taken down, revealing the original tiles, cool vintage ads, old métro maps and peeling signs.

It's like walking through a time capsule.

I took some photos a couple of weeks ago and returned on Tuesday to take some more, but in that short amount of time the most vivid, intact signs and ads, like these old Savora and Schneider publicités, had already disappeared, either torn down by workers or possibly by vandals.
For the most part, all that remains are tattered shreds of what was there two weeks ago.

The Marcadet-Poissonier Métro station (line 12) is like a time capsule right now. Walls have been removed during renovation and there some amazing old ads, flyers and maps that have been uncovered. #paris

I wish something had been done to save them.

If you would like to catch a glimpse of what remains, you should head up to the 18th arrondissement as soon as you can. As of yesterday the old walls were still exposed,  but who knows for how much longer...

I love the Ville de Paris Tourism photo, and, especially, the Bretagne one. So colorful! I'm glad you went back for more photos -- I enjoyed your previous ones. (May have commented already but there seemed to be some sort of glitch...)

What a shame they haven't preserved the pictures. They would make a great exhibition x

Those old publicités are just wonderful, what a shame that they are lost. It would have been an opportunity to preserve them under glass and have a "historic" metro station. Do you know the time period? They look 30s so are probably later. In your copious spare time you should try and find out if anyone "official" documented these finds, and if not, your photos might be something for an exhibit somewhere, even the tourist office or Mairie. You probably know there are "ghost" metro stations, closed now, that still exist, and that can be visited on special tours. However, with all of the roamers in the metro at night, I doubt there is anything as ephemeral as paper signage remaining. You did a very good thing!

I took some others, and so wish I had taken more when I first saw them, when many of the posters were intact. Missed opportunity!

Betty
Those were my favorite too. :)

Merci. :)

I'm not sure of the time period, but didn't do any research as to when they last renovated this station. I'm sure I could find out if I looked.
I do know about the ghost métro stations and find them fascinating!
