Meme Time - I've Been Tagged

Being that I'm back from "vacation," I can finally get around to doing this meme that I was tagged for a couple of weeks ago by Amy at We Are Never Full.

I first heard from Amy when I wrote about Rachel Ray. Not big fans of Ray-Ray over there at We are Never Full. She has written some hilarious posts about her perky nemesis!

On to the meme...

Seven Random/Weird Things About Me:

1. I loathe grating cheese.

2. From a very young age I used to tell everyone that I was going to be an Entomologist when I grew up. I still regret not following my dream...

3. The movie Friday the 13th, which I saw on my 13th birthday birthday slumber party thanks to the newest invention of the early 1980's- Cable TV, scared the living crap out of me. I looked under my bed every night for years afterward, expecting to find Jason there to kill me.

4. When I was 18, I once spent five days eating nothing but Lucky Charms cereal. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. For five days. I must have been on the biggest sugar high!

5. I adamantly refuse to use Starbuck's stupid coffee lingo. Not that I have the opportunity (thankfully) to do so very often. It is a large, dammit, not a venti. And you know what really bugs me, now that I'm on this rant... they use all this pretentious, Italian inspired language, then when you try to order a ristretto,* they didn't know what you're talking about!

6. Stationery, pens and paper products are my secret vice. New Orleans has a fabulous, little shop, Papier Plume, filled with gorgeous writing instruments, blank books and paper. I could spend hours in there along with my other favorite, Scriptura, which specializes in cards and stationery.

7. I love listening to frogs and toads singing and croaking.

Four By Four Meme - All About Moi

I was tagged for this Four By Four Meme by the lovely Kate in Gascony about three weeks ago and am just now finding some time to sit and think about the questions and my answers.

I had to alter a couple of the questions a bit. Kate's What’s the 4 best and worst things about living on a boat? questions don't apply to my landlocked life, so I looked at Rosa's questions (who tagged Kate) and substituted one of hers.
Ok, here goes...

What four things do you love most about living in France?

1. The outdoor markets. I love them! I love getting to know the vendors, the bustle and sights and sounds. I love watching the markets change with the seasons.


2. The appreciation of food and wine.
3. There's always something new to experience
4. Discovering the beauty and charm of each new region and place that I visit in France

What four most memorable jobs you have had?

1. Taking care of the animals in a pet shop
2. An au pair near Angoulême
3. A personal chef
4. Selling antiques at a shop in New Orleans

Four quirky things about the way I eat (and drink)

1. Leftover Thai green curry is one of my favorite breakfasts
2. I don't like sour cream or mayonnaise (unless it's homemade)
3. I like to put popcorn in a glass of milk, get it all soggy, then eat it with a spoon (my mom taught me this!)
4. When I go to the States I find that I like to eat chips and salsa. All. The. Time. It's weird!

I pretty much love them all

Love to travel and explore our region, love to discover new places and try new things. Are those really hobbies though? Look at the "activité manuelle" question I guess.

The original meme asked for "Seven Songs You Are Into Right Now."
I was given the choice and I chose the former, which is much more fun!
My jet lag kept me up half the night anyway, so I had plenty of time to think about seven songs. Why do I always get tagged for meme's when I have jet lag?

1. Because it invokes memories of afternoons drinking champagne and dancing in my backyard in the Seattle summer sun with my girlfriends, ABBA's Dancing Queen definitely makes the list.

2. Annie Lennox is a goddess. I loved her with Dave Stewart in the Eurythmics and I love her on her own. There are several of their/her songs that could make this list but if I have to chose just one it would have to be Erased. "Well here I go, remembering again. All the anger and the blame. People in glass houses shouldn't throw those stones. But...something just flew through my windowpane." The pain and bitterness are palatable.

3. Wonderful! Wonderful! by Johnny Mathis. A great song with sweet lyrics. It is forever etched in my mind however, as the music in a wicked X-Files episode entitled Home.

4. This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) by the Talking Heads. I just love this one.

5. Sheryl Crow is another one I love and choosing just one song was tough, but A Change has got to be it. "Hello its me. I'm not at home. If you'd like to reach me, leave me alone."

6. Via Con Me by Paolo Conte. Another song full of the lyrics "it's wonderful, it's wonderful." (is there a theme here?) I love his raspy voice.

7. I need at least a couple of good songs to dance and sing along to, so after Dancing Queen I have to add Copacabana by Barry Manilow to the list. Poor Lola with that faded feather in her hair. The ultimate karaoke song.
