Floating Over Paris

Champs-Elysées

Champs-Elysées at night

Our original plan was to bundle up against the cold and take an evening walk up the Champs-Élysées to get some photos of the festive holiday lights and to check out the Christmas Village that sets up on the lower half of the Avenue every year.

Then margaritas got involved.
And before I knew it, there was talk of getting on this Ferris Wheel.

Champs-Elysées

As much as I resisted, it seems that my friend, combined with a margarita or two, are more persuasive than I realized.

I'm afraid of heights, but as soon as we were locked into our little carriage and started moving smoothly up into the sky, it just wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. The Wheel stopped while we were at the very top, giving us time to appreciate the glittering lights and beautiful night views.

She got me to step out of my comfort zone. Thankfully.
Without her, I would never have had the chance to float over Paris.

"Hanging out" on the Champs-Élysées. Yes, we went up in that Ferris wheel. I was terrified at first, but it was totally worth it.

Loulou, such a touching post. Love these pictures.

Since 1999, we've made it a tradition to go to Paris for the New Year celebration; our trip always featured a stop at the Place de la Concorde and the Wheel:-) those pictures, from this vintage point mean a lot to me... However, since we became 'proud owners' of an apartment in Cannes, we have given up the Paris St Silvester trip to make more space for Provence. I realize, I'm missing it a bit. Love the views from the top!
Enjoy the pre-Christmas spirit!
I can hardly wait to go to France (where I work is overcast 80% of the year; very cold and rainy).

How marvelous. Are you in an enclosed compartment, not an open seat as in the old-time, country-fair kind of wheel? I might be able to do it, in that case.

Putting it on my list . . . the pictures are lovely.

Very cool! And probably more fun when fueled by margaritas!

What a sweet piece. The strength of friendship and margaritas - two unstoppable forces =)

Thank you for the lovely comment! I enjoy hearing your story and am sure that even though you miss Paris from time to time, the sunny days along the Med in Cannes more than make up for it. :)

No open seat, thank heavens! I don't think I could have done it if they were open. It's mostly enclosed, which felt safe but made it more difficult to take photos.
You should go!

Loulou, bonne année et beaucoup de santé!
Much prosperity in 2014!

I've just read my local newspaper, Nice Matin, which has published the update on the French tax system and has added an interpretation on the increase in cost of living in France.
I will try to make the time to explore a bit the local prices in my area to see how the tax updates feel and what's the effect on everyday life...

All the best!
