Paris And Me

Paris roofline

I know Paris and I don't know Paris.

I've spent a considerable amount of time wandering her streets and exploring her cafésrestaurants and fromageries, but we still don't have what I would consider an intimate relationship. What we have is more of a blossoming, promising friendship.
She always does her best to charm me when I visit, so you could say I have fallen under her spell.

Yes, I have a crush on Paris.

I choose to focus on her grace and beauty, all the while being fully aware that she is far from perfect. I can appreciate the gritty, sometimes tired, sometimes curt side to her personality, because her other side is simply enchanting. She is plagued with problems and deeply flawed, but with the bad comes so much good!

Besides, there is no place that takes my breath away like she does. There is no other place like Paris.

And it looks like she's smitten with me too!

Lovely post and I agree wholeheartedly. When we lived there for many years, all I saw was the dirt and grit and ugly and rude. Now that I go back as a visitor, I see the beauty and grace. And maybe I understand her a bit better. Your photos are lovely and graceful and tell a wonderful story.

You're perpetually in the honeymoon phase with Paris and in many ways, that's the best phase to be in!

I hear you. When I visit Paris I am often in the midst of a tumultuous relationship with her. Part of me loves her charm, grace and absolute glamor. The other part of me is often embittered by her gritty filth and curt personality. Just depends on the visit...

So excited to be there in February!

I understand the sentiment. I love Paris, flaws and all and regardless of the times I explore hidden ways there is always more she keeps hidden for the next time.

Paris has so much personality! I have only been lucky enough to visit once , but I dream of returning everyday!

Your post resonates so strongly with me; whenever I visit Paris, I have a hard time leaving. In fact, this motivated my move to Europe...

The only other place I could think of in terms of charm, grace and absolute glamor is Cannes. And because of its mild climate,
I considered a property in Cannes to become part of our life, at least for the time being.

In any way, I agree that nothing compares to Paris:-)

I love the street art with the little hearts! I think no place is perfect, but it's nice to find yourself in a place where you feel the good & beautiful far outweigh the bad... :)

Photo #4—the bridge with a certain landmark in the misty distance—is just outstanding. The muted colors do something for this scene that a sunny day throwing everything into sharp relief would not be able to accomplish. Very nice. . . !

That's what everyone (i.e. friends in Paris) tells me. :)

Brianna
Yes, there are always those moments of frustration, like in any big city. Paris just has something special though.

I hope your dream comes true soon. Paris is always worth a second (and third, and fourth) visit!

No comparing the weather on the Riviera to Paris, so you've made a good choice. And you can always visit Paris. :)

Very well stated. No place is perfect!

Thank you. :)
Can you see the Eiffel Tour in the distance? Shrouded in fog?

LouLou, Your gorgeous photos transport me back to my Christmas in Paris this year. I think you captured the essence of Paris perfectly. There is the romance, the charm, the ambiance....on the flip side there's the doggy pooh everywhere. I only mention this because both my mom and stepped in it. I still have a crush on Paris just like you.
Happy Weekend!
xx, Heather

We're obviously both still in the honeymoon phase with Paris, dog poop and all. :)
