Les Vacances (sort of)

Things are calming down a bit now that August has come to a close.

As the dreaded canicule fades from our memories and most of France is heading back to work and to school this week, those of us out here in the boonies get a bit of normalcy back in our lives. The foreign plates on the roads have been replaced by tractors coming and going from the vineyards, parking in the village is no longer an issue and navigating the morning markets is much easier.

What a difference from one month ago!

The next couple of weeks will be quiet around here while I clean out the clutter and cobwebs that have collected in both my brain and in our house. I also need to catch up on a few little projects that I was too busy to contend with in August.
I'll continue to be on Twitter and Facebook, and post photos to my Flickr page during my "vacances."

I'll be back on September 15 for the 9th Fête du Fromage International Cheese Tasting Event.
If you would like to join in, please have your entries to me by September 13. The entire round-up will be posted on September 15.

Tell us why you chose this particular cheese. Tell us how it tasted. Tell us about its texture and aroma. Did you eat it on its own? Or with something? Did you drink anything special with your cheese? Would you recommend it or not? Is there something unusual or interesting about it?
  • Photos are wonderful, but not necessary
  • Entries must contain the words La Fête du Fromage and contain a link to Chez Loulou
  • Posts should be written specifically for La Fête du Fromage and not entered in any other food blog event
  • Please send the link to your post to louloufrance (at) gmail (dot) com with the words Fête du Fromage in the subject line

Is that door opening to the back of your house? Looks very inviting. We can't do thng like that in Alabama because of the insects.

Boy, it is just the opposite here. Things are pretty crazy until the 15th, when C. starts university. I'm not sure when they'll slow down. By October, we should be settled into routines a bit more.

I was on holiday near Homps a few weeks ago. On a back road near the lake, saw a woman cyclist with all the lycra, helmet etc, towing her baby son in a trailer.
Imagined she was doing a tour of villages. An inspiring sight in the heat of 35C!

I love the photo of the back of the house.... simple and beautiful. I am hoping now that it is quite to participate in your cheese event! I have been a bit away with business but looking forward to reconnection with Chez Loulou!

Is the house that is listed on your site for sale, yours?

No, that is our neighbor's house. Isn't it lovely?
We have flies here but most people don't have screens.

Betty
The restaurant is quieter than it was in August and the mass exodus of northerners and foreigners has taken place so it seems really quiet down here!

All through August I saw people out riding their bikes in 36-39C weather and thought they were insane!

Chez US
I love this photo too, thanks!
Hope you do join in la Fête du Fromage!
Yes, that is our house for sale. Are you interested? ;)

Calvin
We SO look forward to seeing you again! xo

I've already picked my cheese. I need to do some research on it and write the blurb.

One of these days I hope to experience what you describe- the quietness of a France without tourists! I've been away for a while, but as usual, coming to your blog puts me right back in France. :)

Can't wait to see what you've tasted this time!

You'll have to come to France when it isn't so crowded. There are many, many quiet places down here off season.
La Douce Vie looks amazing. I wish I could read it!

Valerie! You commented while I was in your kitchen chopping lemongrass and peppers! :)
I did a guest post for another site which goes live tomorrow. I'll send you the link and will be back here with cheese tasting in a couple of days.

I hope I'm not too late to submit a cheesy entry for La Fete du Fromage (just sent you an email). If so, Zuts Alors!
