Photo du Jour - Pain au Levain

Pain au Levain - Sourdough bread.

Not as strong as the famous sourdough bread in San Francisco. This is made from organic flour and sold by the kilo at the local weekly morning market.
Nice and crunchy crust and a robust, chewy texture. Pin It

Hi, I want you to know that I check in with your blog every day and am really enjoying it. We will be in Caunes-Minervois for the winter. How far is that from where you live, and what markets do you go to for all these goodies you buy?? I wrote you earlier about your house sale, and we'd like to get in touch with you and see it when we're over there. Theresa

It took me a while to figure out that "pain au levain" was sourdough bread. It's true -- it's not quite as strong as the SF version.

It's one of our favorites here.

It is some delicious bread!
One big loaf lasts several days. I love not having to go to the boulangerie every day. (there isn't one in the village)

He has several other varieties that I want to try. Some with walnuts and figs, some with sunflower seeds. YUM

Hi! Thanks for reading and commenting.
The market is in Olonzac on Tuesday mornings.
We live about 20 minutes from Caunes. Can you send me an email when you arrive and we can make an appointment for the house?
Have a good trip over!

I saw some gorgeous ones on Wednesday in Moulin de la Vièrge... I was so sad of not having taken my camera with me.

I hate it when I see something like that and don't have my camera!
