What I Do

Château de Canisy

Since starting my job at the Château de Canisy I've had a lot of people asking me what it is that I do exactly.

What a good question!
Do you want the short version or the long version?

Oh heck, I'll give you both.

Salon de Musique

Canisy's Dining Room

Short version - I am the assistant to the director of the Château.

Long version - I am a receptionist. I am in charge of clientele. I help with guest relations and reservations. I am a concierge. I give tours. I translate documents and menus. I help set up, serve and clean up after big dinners and events. I teach English to my co-workers. I help update the Château's blog. I serve drinks during the apéritif hour. I try to answer our guest's many, many questions.

So there you have it. What I do at the Château.

Luckily the chef hasn't asked me to help him cook dinner. Yet.

Well LouLou

You are a "jack of all trades" - like they say in French: une touche à tout LOL!

So you must get home late some days or do you stay at the Chateau when they have late night events ?

Well, you might as well live there, I'm sure they have an extra room ;)

Sounds like a great job that keeps you busy and entertained!

Would love to visit the chateau one day...

That is the type of job I would truly enjoy because it is never boring, and you get to interact with a variety of people. Oh, and let's not forget the environment! :-) Not an easy feat to find it, I am certain, with the current unemployment rate in France, especially outside of Paris. Good for you. That sounds like a blast of a job + you have that gorgeous setting (I say as I sit here in a room with no windows, grading papers)... I shouldn't complain, though, since in 4 more days, I have two and 1/2 months off! France here I come...

My beautiful wife was looking at your blog about the Chateau some weeks ago and she asked me 'what does she do?' I think she asked because this is what she does. See

Jennifer,
How lucky are you?! It sounds like a wonderful job. I love the chandelier above the dining table. Is that turquoise milk glass?
I'll bet you're pinching yourself daily.
Although, the Languedoc misses you.

My boss is the one who keeps everything going. She knows the place inside and out and I'm in awe of her. And she's got a wonderful sense of humor. I love working with her!

I don't think there are many jobs like this out there and I feel incredibly fortunate that this opportunity came my way. And no, it is never boring!

Lindsey
It's hard to describe exactly what I do, so it took me a while to write this post.
I hope I can give you a tour one day!
