Photo du Jour - Picked

Picked

The vendange has been going for about a month now.
First the white, now the red.

The village streets are dotted with grapes spilled on their way to the cave to be crushed and the air is filled with the aroma of rich, earthy yeast.
Les vignerons are barely taking a moment to rest.

The fall with the vendange is my favorite time of the year; love those smells.

How interesting. I love the thought of the scattered grapes on the roads. :)

I was following a trailer load of grapes today and my car windscreen is totally sticky now with grape juice!!
The air is really full with the smell and sound of the vendange. A great time to be here in the south of France.

It astounds me just how different your view is from mine! Tin roofs, cars and pedestrians for me, no green pastures or vendange!

Surely experiencing the hurly burly of big city life makes you appreciate the serenity and wonder of nature in the countryside even more. I am not saying one is better than the other, just that both can be appreciated in different ways.

Moi aussi!

Nancy
They are everywhere. Some of the roads get very sticky!

Hamish
lol Oh no!
This is my favorite time of year, and a perfect time to visit.

Lindsey
This is worlds away from Paris, that's for sure. You should come down some time and enjoy our views. :)

Hamish
Couldn't agree more! Personally, I like having a bit of both. Sometimes I need the buzz of a city to balance out our quiet, village life.

I passed some today and was amazed at the beautiful smells that seemed to be coming up from the picked grapes. Diane

My boyfriend is down in Paziols doing the vendanges... I wish I were there too! Maybe next year (fingers crossed...) That's a gorgeous picture!

I would love to have stood where you did to take that photo! This is one of my absolute favorite blogs. I'm so happy every time I stop by.

It is a very fragrant time of year!

You need to come down next year! It is the best time of year in the Minervois, if you ask me.

Figs
Thank you. What a sweet comment! :)

I love this time of year! Well, except for all the spiders coming into the house.....
They're just starting to pick around here.

I've noticed more spiders in the house too. They're getting ready to spend the winter with us. :)

LOVE this time of year over there! will not be back in Languedoc until December this year, but seems like every other year we have made it over in October.

One of the things I remember most about our first trip there was how you could drive down the road and the air everywhere smelled of wine.

It's my favorite time of the year and we've had absolutely perfect weather this year as well. Hopefully there will be lots of sun this December for you!
Where's your place in the Languedoc?
