Photo du Jour - Vélib

Vélib is a fabulous idea. It cuts down on traffic, the bikes are easily accessible and people were using them everywhere I looked.

I wanted to pay my €1 and hop on one and feel the wind on my face while I pedaled around Paris...but I just couldn't imagine riding a bicycle safely alongside the, how shall I put this...
rather erratic
Parisian drivers.

Maybe next time.
Or maybe I'll just stick to walking. Pin It

I'm still sort of scared of cycling in the big city. Heck, I'm scared of driving in the big city. I couldn't imagine going it on a two wheeler.

This reminds me of the 'Free Bike' scheme that was introduced to Cambridge in 1993. It was a great idea. Healthy, economic, great for the environment and the beautiful city of Cambridge.
Unfortunately someone stole all 300 bikes on the first day!

Velib' is great! I admit, I described my first few ventures as "terrifying," (the first, in fact, was at 4am and involved both Place de la Bastille and Place de la République!) but the more I ride, the less scary it gets.

Looks like you had a wonderful time in Paris!

I can't imagine driving in Paris either. But I'm sure it must be better than driving places like Rome or Naples!

That is sad! I've heard that they've had problems with theft and vandalism in Paris too.

Riding around at 4am sounds heavenly. Quiet, little traffic, buildings all lit up...
Yes, Paris was spectacular. I want to try to go again soon. I'll let you know and maybe we can meet for coffee.

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying them.
Yes, two more days to write about. Stay tuned!
