An American BBQ in the South of France

We celebrated our "World Food" evening again last night. This month's theme...
American food.

American food? Yes, it's true. But it wasn't our idea!

I can't remember who suggested an American food themed dinner at our last gathering, but as the only Americans in the group, how could we dissuade our friends from wanting to cook some traditional American dishes?
Fortunately I had a big tub of spicy BBQ sauce in the freezer that I had brought back from Luke's BBQ in Loon Lake, Washington to make something with. (trust me, his sauce is spectacular!)

The final menu consisted of:
Corn and Shrimp Chowder
Caesar Salad
Coleslaw
Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches
Pumpkin - Maple Syrup Pie

bbq pork sandwiches...don't see this very often 'round these parts

the wine was flowing

So far we've enjoyed Mexican, Thai, Brazilian, Indian, Spanish and now, American. What on earth will we do next???

MMM, Hungarian food would be mighty good or on the othr end of the spectrum - Swedish. Your world food dinners sound like so much fun!

Thanks for the ideas!
Seems like everywhere we've lived, we've been involved in a dinner group like this. You should start one with some friends!

Oh my goodness...I do miss good bbq sauce...and this looks delicious! Note to self: bring back a tub of bbq sauce next trip. Here's to making the best of both worlds! Bravo!

la fourchette,
merci!
I don't think any of our friends had ever had that kind of bbq before. It was a great success!

Thanks for commenting on my blog and your blog looks lovely! When we lived in Toulouse we invited French friends over for Mexican night! (After all, what is more American than Mexican food :)lol)
I'm off to read more of your blog.

cassoulet café,
We had a Louisiana food night for our French friends and they loved it.

Oh, I miss Mexican food! The ingredients can be pretty hard to find down here so I bring stuff back with me and use it sparingly throughout the year.

Yes, finding the ingredients was an adventure! I found wimpy looking cilantro at LeCler, never did find jalepenos, and of course we always had the Old El Paso kits ;)
I had some taco seasoning sent to me.
We're planning to go to France in a few months and we'll bring some Mexican cuisine essentials to have a Mexican night dinner party for our French friends.:)

Really enjoyed your idea about World Food Evenings--sounds like a great way to celebrate cuisines from around the globe!

Chef JP
Thanks for the mention!
It was a great evening and I think we've decided that our next one, in January, will be Japanese. That will be interesting!
