Photo du Jour

Parked for lunch.

If we have to be anywhere "on time" (a relative term in the south of France) during the vendange, we must leave the house about 10 minutes early because there is the inevitability of getting stuck behind a trailer like this one or a harvester like this. Pin It

Soon to be a common sight on our roads, too!

Still hasn't started up there? I'm surprised!
I think they've finished with the white grapes and are working on the red. Merlot is the first to be picked.

As I have to make my way to and from work on tiny country roads, on the hills of Frascati, I am well aware of the problem. The hills are full of drunk birds and the wind carries fumes from the local wine makers...

Hmmmm, drunk birds!

No, harvesting won't start here for another week or so.

The scent of fermenting grapes is in the air here also. Haven't seen any drunk birds though. I'll have to look out for them!

It's a great time of year, isn't it.

After the anxiety of the hail storm 10 days ago, we are now in the lull period....the whites and many of the grapes for Roses have now been picked, but most serious growers are holding on for another few days for the majority of the reds. The acidity in the Syrah grapes and in particular in the pips is too high, so they need a few more days ripening. Anxious times...with half an eye on possible rain!

The vineyards seem pretty busy around here.
I read that rain is on its way this Friday. They better get going! :)
