Photo du Jour - Summer Salad

Summer Fare.
On a hot day, this salad is juicy and refreshing and has that wonderful mélange of sweet and salty that I love so much!
Cantaloupe and Serrano Ham Salad
Two thin slices of Serrano ham and two slices of ripe cantaloupe per person
Olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper

Put the peeled slices of cantaloupe on a plate and drape slices of Serrano ham over the melon.
Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and a grinding of black pepper. Pin It

You just posted the plate of food that I have been dreaming of every time I eat cantalope in the USA. I love good melon with ham and cheese to go with a good glass of rosé. I never forget the taste of my first bite into Cavaillon melon when I was in Avignon in 1997. Hope you are okay with me saving it as my desktop background. Thank you.

I just wanted to mention how much I hate your blog -- I'd give my left testicle to live in Southern France. (deep envious sigh)

Ah, the Cavaillon melon...so good! This one grew locally and was super sweet.

Thanks for the nice comment. I'm glad you like the photo and think it is great that you want it as a desktop background!

I couldn't agree more. I love that you can throw this dish together in about 3 minutes and it is always a crowd pleaser!

Perfect for hot days when you don't want to cook. :)

Anne
You can get these ingredients where you live in England, I hope? And some nice pink wine?

Kevin
But then you'd only be left with one...
Thank you for your loathing! :)

Since I get to see it all the time on my desktop, I notice (at 3 o'clock position) some white stuff. They look like a certain kind of fruit in Asia. What are they, please?

Those do look like lychee fruits, don't they!?
No, they're ice cubes, keeping the melon cool on what was a very hot evening.
You are very observant! :)

Perfect summertime fare. I would love to have it on the patio - if it would just stop raining long enough! -- jean

Well, I hope your rain stops soon! But you can still enjoy some melon and ham indoors. :)
