Photo du Jour

Creeping up the fence in our garden.

But it won't be our garden for much longer.
We've decided to sell it for some much needed Euros. The weak dollar definitely hasn't made living in France easy!

And, to add insult to injury, the price of cheese keeps going up. Quel horreur!

Hopefully, one day I'll be granted citizenship and the right to work. (don't laugh, I'm trying to be positive) Until then, we do what we have to do to survive.

Good thing that train ticket to Paris and back was only 34€. I plan on enjoying a lot of free activities and cheap food!

Um, cheap food? Paris? Best of luck! (There are many many free activities, though.)

My favorite (relatively) cheap restaurant is Les Fernandises (rue de la Fontaine au Roi, 11th arr.) A 3-course dinner is 19.50!

I was thinking along the lines of falafel, kababs, Pho, that kind of thing. :)
I get enough French food already so don't really need to eat proper, 3 course meals while I'm in Paris. But thanks for the recommendation. I'll put it in my book.
What we don't have down here is good ethnic food. I want to enjoy that as much as I can!

are you really selling your house? Then what will you do? Is it hard to open your own business in France? At least the dollar has been going up lately, today it's at 146.00, better than 158.00. Is all your money in dollars.

our juicy life
Our house is for sale, but we're not leaving France. We would like a different style of house.
It is very difficult to open your own business in France, at least in our département, the Hérault, as the sous-préfecture is extremely difficult. Where you're heading it might be easier. In my own experience, opening a business was hell! And they absolutely drown you in paperwork.
We're relieved to see the dollar gain a few cents every day! Things are looking up! :)

What a shame about selling your garden..how will that work if/when you sell your house.

mmmm....falafel in the Marais.

and from what I've learned OJL, loulou is right ... things vary greatly département to département. The prefecture in Périgueux was a dream.

the garden isn't attached to the house and all of the prospective buyers who have already seen the house didn't like the fact that it wasn't attached, so we've sold the garden and dropped the price of the house.
Hopefully we'll sell the house soon!

jnrr
Ok, that's it! We're getting out of this département and moving to one that is easier! :)

Sorry that you have to sell your hous ! Do you already know where you'll move ?
From personal experience, the Pyrénées Orientales is quite a friendly département and Perpignan's préfecture seems to be more easy to handle (?) And the landscape, the wine ..... the quality of life is equivalent of the one you can get in Hérault.

We would like to stay here, in this village or close to it, if possible.
Thanks for the info about Perpignan and the P.O. We like that area too!
