Capturing the Moment

Café

I can't believe I just spent three days in Paris, eating, drinking, seeing friends and taking part in a brilliant scavenger hunt at the Louvre, and I didn't capture any of those moments on film!
Or digital. Or whatever you call it these days.

Instead of feeling like I had to document them, I was simply enjoying those moments. Enjoying who I was spending time with and appreciating what was on the plate in front of me.

I'm trying to focus more while using my camera (no pun intended), as opposed to just snapping away. That doesn't mean that I didn't take any photos. I took a lot, but almost all of them were taken when I was alone.

Like this one. A gorgeous café awning and terrace in the 5th that caught my eye while I was out wandering around.

It is one of the most distracting moments of dinner, when I say "Don't start eating until I am done taking pictures".

Yet it's fun towrite about it.

Jennifer! Thank you for the THATLou hyperlink - you must be a superstar because it's upped my visits immensely! As for actually being in the moment and taking photos alone, it's a wonderful phase. I haven't been there in a long while.

Really loved seeing you in Paris. Hope to see you in October!

Thought for a moment that cafe was the same as your header picture, just different colored trim on the chairs. I know what you mean about seeing not-through-a-lens.

Oh thank you!! It took me right back! We just returned in May from time in France, 5 days of which were in Paris.

You know what really plopped me back into the feel of Paris, from your photo? The orange/white 'cheques dejeuner' sign in the window, and the sidewalk potty down the street!

Thanks for the glimpse!

I know exactly what you mean. I am too eager to snap a photo and I don't always spot little details that could be emphasized or avoided. I shot 100s of pix during a recent trip to Paris, and many seem mediocre to me.

I used to do that a lot! :)
My husband was always very understanding about it.

Great news!
I enjoyed meeting you so much and look forward to more time in October.
You have created a great business so I'll be as supportive as I can!

I have SO many café chair photos, so I can see why you would think that.
:)

CJ
Glad to have brought back good memories and hope you get back to France soon!

Being able to snap away and erase with ease is the beauty of the digital, but at the same time I know I've become lazy when taking photos. I'm working on changing that!

Lucky you to attend Daisy's do at the Louvre. I wonder if I could ever be camera-free again - It's my sketchbook/diary

I'm finding it is better to enjoy the moment instead of having to capture it on film.

I don't think I'll ever be camera free! :) I'm just starting to use it more judiciously when spending time with friends.

It's a great picture that really captures the essence of it's subject!
When we used to use real film cameras with a limited (at least by today's standards) number of photos to be had, it made us be a bit more careful about the pictures we took. Maybe having things digital has made it too easy to just 'snap away' without really considering what or why?

Bonjour! New reader here and I felt a palpable warming of the heart on seeing this picture. I'm sure I've eaten there. Have been lucky enough for the past 8 years to get to work for about a month out of every year in Paris (live in HI, US) and this year I won't be able to go on that work trip...I'll miss France greatly, but I feel like I can relive it a bit with your photos.

A scavenger hunt at the Louvre? How interesting and fun would that be!?? I know what you mean about taking photos instead of enjoying the moment. I am always taking photos of our food. My Bobby G. always ask if he can eat before he eats. LOL

I think so...but it does allow me to be more free and creative.

Thank you and I'm happy I was able to bring a little bit of France to you. Hope you get back over here soon!
