Sunday Reading

We're having a heat wave. A south of France heat wave.
And I am sick of it!
Staying cool has become an obsession.

The perfect, icy pick me up to beat the heat on a sizzling afternoon. Or to wake you up on a muggy morning.

Refreshing and zesty. One of my favorites.

Soup in the summer? Absolutely! Especially when its full of garlic, almonds and sherry vinegar.
This lemongrass infused version also looks fantastic.

One of the most amazing, most refreshing salads. Ever.

How I long for central air on days like these.
We own a little, mobile air conditioner, but it only cools a small space, so we keep it upstairs in our bedroom. It is heavenly on those sweltering nights.

If anyone has a favorite beat the heat recipe to share, I would love for you to share it with me! Pin It

I wish I could help..but we do not experience heat waves in the UK..well sometimes. I can remember a few weeks or so back, we did have one then, and it started the minute you woke up..that is not a good feeling, I thought what am I going to do.

I hope things improve for you, I love the recipes, definitely the Watermelon salad!

We have a similar room air conditioner we use at night so we can actually sleep (although it seems crazy that when it's coolest outside it's still warm inside and we have to use the air...). The first time we plugged it in I remembered that a/c's actually quite noisy. As for beat the heat, as a kid in a hotel room in Needles California I wiped ice cubes over my sheets so they would be damp with ice water. I also remember filling a hot water bottle with ice cubes and sticking it around my feet or in my arms and that really helped. Make sure it doesn't leak though.

You must try the watermelon salad. It is to die for!

The ice in the hot water bottle idea is a great one, thanks!

We're so lucky that it turned coolish for our return on Friday. i mean, it was warm enough, but we didn't get that oven blast feeling when we got off the plane in Toulouse.

I'm more orless back in Blogville BTW.

So glad that you're home safe and sound! Now that you're home, we'll have to discuss my visit to Rodez this autumn.

The girls and I are going to try to work out a weekend in London -- when I know those dates, I'll get in touch with you. That would be great to see you up here!

OMG! You have a portable air conditioner. I had one of those in Los Angeles but now that I live in a house of Frenchies in France, I'm not allowed to have one. They all believe that air conditioning is terrible for your health. It took me 6 months of arguing with my French husband just to let me use a fan or open a window without being lectured on the 'Killer Draft.' What is it with these incredibly stupid 'air ideas' that the French have?! Cynthia in the French Alps

Ah...the dreaded "killer drafts" :)
Do they only exist in France?

Husband is American, so he loves his air con as much as I do!
