One of my favourite fruits, but not available in most of the US. This is torture! Your great pic will have to do...

they are difficult to find in the States! I remember how exciting it was to find them in Pike Place Market every autumn. I always bought one, expensive little box

We just had figs wrapped in proscuitto with olive oil and lemon the other night for dinner...the photo brought a smile to my face!

sounds delicious!
I'm thinking of stuffing some with goat's cheese, wrapping in bacon and roasting. so decadent!

Oh yes, that ARE absolutely beautiful! While I was on vacation in Noirmoutier, we had an apéritif dînatoire with some neighbors, and our friend Ada had included figs with prosciutto ham... It was such a great idea! I'm so used to having ham with melon, but this was the perfect combination, and the figs were even more perfect -- now I'm dying to track down some figs here in town where I live, and I might get some at the market this weekend, but I know they're probably going to cost a fortune -- ah, but for once it will be worth the treat!

Nice to see you back!
Figs and Proscuitto sound like a wonderful combination.
Did you get any figs at the market?

Yep, I bought a small basket of them -- only about 350 grams... They weren't as expensive as I had expected, so I was able to get some other fruit, too (including 3 mangos for 1.50, a real steal!) -- I just hope I don't let any of it go to waste! I have a really bad habit of picking up TOO much stuff in the end and having it go bad before I'm able to eat it... I'm just so over-eager to try so much at once -- before the season ends!

Speaking of which, I used some fresh basil in a salad just that afternoon, but the rest of the basil bunch wilted so quickly that I'm not even able to use the rest of it... Oh, how I wish I had herb plants of my own! I had a tiny basil plant on the windowsill for 2 months, but then I lost it when I left on vacation.

The figs in the end were nice, but not as sweet as I would have liked -- they turned out well with some prosciutto, and we ended up having some friends over for dinner, so they made the perfect little hors d'oeuvres! But they were figues noires (I actually thought they were considered red figs?!) instead of figues blanches... I'm curious to know which are sweeter!
